I think that my bird figure sculpture was the best sculpture and the coolest I have ever done. Why? Because that was when I first used mod podge. And it was the first sculpture I made in 9th grade. My Motion in art wire mobel is the only one that I would like to redo. mainly because it's so small, it looks really bad because its only made of wire and paper and I never got to completely finish it because it was so small, the size of it was no bigger than the palm of my hand. It got more and more difficult to bend the wire around another piece of wire when its that small. One thing that I learned in art class is that an artist always has a backup plan if the first plan doesn't work. Like in other classes if you have to do a presentation and the first idea wont work, if you have a 2nd idea then you won't be totally lost because you will have a backup option. Another thing I learned in art class and could help you in other classes is that you have to be creative and know 'what it would look like if I add this'. I wish that we could've had a sculpture competition or went as a class to an art museum, but we would have to pay for ourselves.

This sculpture looks like an eyeball that is on fire with chili peppers around it. We decided on making the eye color green. I mainly wanted to do it green because green is my favorite color and because I have green eyes.
The eyeball and the chili peppers are made from tinfoil for the base structure, next mod podge and paper towels, then I drew the details on the eye, and finally painted them both. The eyeball has a mix of yellow, red, white and orange paint to give a light warm feeling to the flames. Hanging around the eye are 4 red hot chili peppers. Fishing line are attached to the eye and the peppers, the fishing line is attached a circle of wire. In the beginning of trying to get an idea of how to make this we were searching online and my partner found a drawn picture of a red eye with fire inside. The big idea in this is to not get hot chilli peppers in your eye. One of my goals was to completely finish this sculpture. My thoughts on this sculpture is that this looks really good, nice details and it took a long time to finish but it was worth it to see it finished. Collaboration played an important part in this last project to see how you get along with working together. Some benefits in this would be getting done faster or slower and the help. Some challenges I faced would be working together, since my partner and I would both have different thoughts and opinions. It's difficult deciding on whos doing what and what's going to happen. All in all doing collaboration was a new experience for me and that I don't really working with a partner, I mainly do things solo. So this is the last big project we are doing and we have to work with partners. Well, we don't have to but it would be better that way. Anyway one of us needs to start it and the other one can finish and add something that looks like its not supposed to be there. My partner and I are doing a mobile of an green eye with fire in it (because its supposed to show that you should not get hot peppers into your eye) and surrounding it is 4 peppers. I was thinking to do so some develop craft and use stuff that you would not normally use. This sculpture is mainly trying to express what not to do in the kitchen and just in general. My partner is working on the eye and i'm working on the peppers. We started using tinfoil to get the structure. Then, we put mod podge and then finally we would paint them. Oh and we would attach fishing line to each of the peppers and one to the eye and then tie them to some wire. We aren't yet finished with it but we will soon.
FlipbookThis flipbook shows the beginning of a tree sprouting from the ground and slowly turning into a flowering tree. The first few pages show the scene taking place and a sprout coming out from the ground. Next, the sprout is growing leaves and growing bigger. Then, it begins to snow and the tree loose's it's leaves. After that all the leaves on the tree are completely gone, it stops snowing and slowly all the snow melts. Then finally, the leaves start to come back and little buds begin to come out of some of the branches, and then the buds bloom and become flowers. but I didn't get finished to draw the flower petals falling off and apples growing. I used a notepad and a pencil. The big idea behind this is the circle of life. My goal for this flipbook was to get it finished and get it outlined, I didn't get it finished and didn't get it outlined. My overall thoughts on this flip book is how much time and effort I put into it and the design of it. 12/15/17 Motion in Art/ BlogIn the beginning of this I needed to envision on how each step would be created and how it would look after I drew it on the page. When I did this I wanted to express my feelings and because its winter right now and when it turns spring everything will grow back even better than the last time.
To celebrate thanksgiving we made hand turkeys, but we got to design our turkey hands into anything we wanted to make. For example, a zombie, santa, a princess and other things we could make our turkeys into. I made mine into a zombie turkey. In the beginning of starting to create mine, I knew exactly what to do. So for each step I would envision every new detail that I was going to add and draw it on the turkey. Motion in Art, 1st sculptureFor the first sculpture I did for motion in art is a miniature christmas mobile . It was small because I wanted it to be small but it was also very hard to create because it was small. Mrs. Underhill thought it was going to be a diorama, but my original thought was just to make it small. It was taking a long time to just make the small one, so I just stopped doing it and moved on to do another motion in art sculpture. When I was in the middle of creating it, I started to observe around the room at what the other students were doing for theirs. Motion in Art, 2nd sculpture After when I stopped doing the mobile sculpture I started thinking on what this one could be. It had to be something that showed movement and I thought of flip books all of a sudden because they show movement with many pages. So for this one I decided to do a flip book. My flip book is a tree sprouting from the ground and slowly growing into a tree and then slowly losing its leaves because winter is coming. I'm still working on it right now.
When you look at this artwork you see that on one side there is a blue bird and on the other side it looks like it's cut in half and it's showing the white skeleton. The alive side of the bird is blue, its beak is yellow, its eye is white and black and the ground is green. The dead side is caved in and the skeleton is white, the eye socket is black, surrounding the skeleton is muscle and blood and it is flying over grass. I created this artwork with colored wire, mod podge and paint. The big idea behind this artwork is the cycle between life and death. One of my goals was to finish this and add lots of designing in it. The other was to be sure it can stand on its own. The thoughts I have of this sculpture is what other people would think and say of it because there is some wire coming out and they could say that its not finished.
Wire Figure SculptureWhen I first started working on my sculpture I was just going to make a flying wire bird with tinfoil on top and a the other side of the body is gone, and that was just going to be what I was going to do. I made the other side of the body gone to get the half life and half death look, Mrs. Underhill told me that I could put Mod Podge over the tinfoil and put little pieces of paper towels on it and then paint over it. Right now I finished applying the Mod Podge and paper to it, now I just have to paint it. I'm hoping to get it done soon. When in the making of this sculpture I wanted to observe what the students were doing for their sculptures. I had to look online to get a thought on how to get started and envision on how it would look like when I did it.
Figure SculptureThe figure sculpture is kinda hard not going to lie, but I made it hard so I can have a challenge. Making a figure sculpture should be easy but i'm making a wire figure sculpture. My original plan was to do a wire sculpture of a deer, but since i really love looking at birds (Only because the deer I was going to do was bit past my level and it would take me like two years to finish) that i decided i wanted to create an original figure of a flying bird sculpture. Right now i'm only at the beginning of making it and i'm starting to do the wire outline. I will add some tinfoil at the end to make it look like its undead or zombie flying bird. The thing that makes this art, is that its taking a lot of time and effort to make this and i'm really excited to finish it. I will probably get it finished by the next blog and show the final results. The color of the project when its done, the bird part will have blue wire body structure and the stand will be green to get the impression that the bird is flying over green grass. Pumpkin CarvingThe pumpkin carving project is really cool and fun because you can do anything you want with the pumpkin. What i'm doing is NOT carving. I am painting my pumpkin to look like a green zombie, part of its brain is showing, its eyes are a glowing white, wearing a dirty light blue shirt, part of ribs showing, one arm missing, dirty dark blue pants, one foot missing and black shoes. This is art because I am putting effort into this and its close to halloween.
All week I have been working on Artist Repurpose. In the beginning, I had to work on Envisioning because I needed an idea of how to make it. I had to Express my feelings for this artwork, a couple of feelings I have when I look at this are calm, happy and for nature lovers. I had to think about how I could use the lego pieces I had. I was lost, I didn't know what I could do and I thought it was hopeless. But Mrs. Underhill told me "hey Caitlyn, what if you could make a flower out of the pieces you have". I thought it was a great idea and decided to roll with that option. It was really hard trying to make the lego pieces into a flower. At first, the only color it had was a black, red and dark blue color. The black was the flower petals, the dark blue was smooth effects of the petal, and the red is the pistil part of the flower. But now that it's painted, I made the black an ocean blue, the dark blue is also an ocean blue, and the red in the center is now a yellow with black lines. I also made a very cool lightening area in the back that makes it look like the sun is shining on the back of the flower. I also made shading on the bottom.
